Kager, Hans (d. 1524)

Hans Kager (Kag) a revolutionary in Augsburg, Germany, was executed there in August 1524 with Hans Speisser. Gerhard Uhlhorn writes, "It is characteristic that the martyr lists of the Anabaptists include these two men, though with some difference in spelling, among their blood witnesses, perhaps an indication of the type of elements now beginning to stir in Augsburg." There were, however, no Anabaptists before 1525. Nor does Uhlhorn cite an Anabaptist martyr list, but quotes Ottius, Annales Anabaptistici, who in turn does not list Kager. Kager does not appear in the Anabaptist martyr lists. Their identity is not clear.
