Kool is a Dutch Mennonite family name. Pieter Kool, a brewer of Amsterdam, was married to Anna Roskam of Beverwijk. Soon after his marriage Kool took over his father-in-law's vinegar factory at Beverwijk. Their son was Agge Roskam Kool, b. 16 October 1714 at Amsterdam, d. 23 March 1789 at Beverwijk. Agge Roskam Kool was a remarkable man. He not only ran the vinegar factory with much ability and profit, but also made a number of useful inventions, for example, the breeches buoy, an apparatus to rescue the shipwrecked. He was the inventor of an improved method of vaccination for a cattle plague. He also made maps of the Dutch coast and low-tide zone. For a large number of years Kool served the Mennonite congregation of Beverwijk as a deacon. At the same time he was an ardent Collegiant. He often stayed at Rijnsburg, the Collegiant center in the Netherlands, where he delivered many addresses and also performed baptism by immersion after 1753. In 1760 he baptized Aagje Deken. In 1736 Agge Roskam Kool was married to Trijntje Jansd. Honig of Zaandijk. One of their 11 children was Jan Kool, b. 1741 at Beverwijk, d. 1816 at Zaandijk, who in 1766 was married to Stijntje Gerritsd. Honig of Zaandijk and who ran a  well-known paper mill at Zaandijk.

Some Kool descendants were later found at Alkmaar, where both Jacob Pieter Kool Jzn and Jacob Pieter Kool Pzn were cheese exporters and also deacons of the congregation 1869-1884 and 1881-1891, 1894-1919 respectively. P. Schuckink Kool, a descendant of Agge Roskam Kool and like his ancestor a resident of Beverwijk, served his home church as a deacon from 1857 for more than 25 years. A branch of this family lived in Amsterdam.
