New page

David Krehbiel, a teacher in the Realschule at Weierhof, Palatinate, Germany, was born 17 May 1849, at Ramsen, and he died 7 July 1908. He attended the Gymnasium at Basel and the normal school at Schiers in Switzerland, and then the universities at Neuchâtel and Basel. He accepted a position at the Realschule at Weierhof in 1873, which he resigned in 1900 because of ill health. He won enduring merit by his long service as bookkeeper of the Mennonite school association, by his warm advocacy of the principles of the Mennonite brotherhood, and by his well-written articles in Mennonitische Blätter and clever stories in Pilgerleben and Christlicher Gemeindekalender. His deeply felt religious verses, one of which, "Ja, liebster Jesu, Dein sind wir," is found in the South German Mennonite hymnal -- were collected and published by his son under the title Religiose Gedichte.
