Kaspar Loscher (1636-1718) was a German Lutheran divine, educated at the University of Leipzig. He became church superintendent in Sondershausen in 1668, first pastor at Erfurt in 1676, superintendent at Zwickau in 1679, and general superintendent and professor at Wittenberg in 1687. His oldest son was the noted Valentin Löscher. In 1688 the following work was published in Wittenberg: Secta Mennonitarum, quoad ortum, progressum et mataeologiam, elencho, qua potiora religionis capita, notatam, delineata; praeside Dn. Casparo Loescher . . . autor Johannes Vaget, Bremensis. In general in the older dissertations the praeses is considered the author. The list of Kaspar Löscher's works, expressly excluding the Disputationes a respondentibus elaboratae, does not contain this title; and the wording of a foreword of the praeses to the respondens explains why it is sometimes attributed to Löscher, and sometimes to Vaget.

It contains 56 pages quarto with many sources. The booklet first discusses the various names for the Mennonites and then gives a historical sketch. A second section treats Formam sectae huius externam and particularly Hodomoriam mennonianam eiusdemque confutationem; nine phantasmata are presented and rejected.
