Jan Laurensz was a Mennonite from Rotterdam, Holland, a follower of Spener, who often visited in Pietistic circles at Frankfurt, Germany, together with Jacob van de Velde and Abraham Hazevoet, who were also Mennonites. Jan Laurensz in May 1683 bought a tract of land from William Penn with the intention of emigrating to Pennsylvania. Laurensz and the other Mennonites are, however, not found among the early Mennonite immigrants to North America.
