Van der Ley was a Dutch Mennonite family, formerly at Zaandam and Koog aan de Zaan. Symon Aarjans van der Ley (Simon Adriaansz) was a preacher of the Koog-Zaandijk Waterlander congregation (year of calling unknown) and from 1680 of the United Flemish and Waterlander congregation of Koog-Zaandijk. He lived at Zaandijk, and died before 1700. His cousin Jan Pietersz van der Ley (1671-1750) married to Mary Claesd. Kaaskooper, and their son Aris (Jans) van der Ley (1708-1800), both of Zaandijk, were noted manufacturers of paper, operating the de Bonsem, de Wever, and 't Fortuyn mills. The van der Ley family has now died out.
