Lysbeth Smeets, an Anabaptist martyr, was drowned on 16 March 1535, in the Scheldt River at Antwerp. Her husband Mattheus Sauvaige had been put to death as an Anabaptist on 3 March of the same year. Particulars are lacking. Mattheus and Lysbeth are among the first Anabaptist martyrs of Antwerp.
