Maritgen Willem van Damsdochter, the wife of Jan van Halteren of Haarlem, was arrested there on 24 May 1573 because of rebaptism. On 17 September of the same year she died in the St. Jans tower after she had given birth to a child. The expression found in the records, that "she died as a Christian," seems to indicate that she forsook her Mennonite faith.
