Marritgen Nadminx was an Anabaptist martyr from Alkmaar, Dutch province of North Holland, who was drowned at Amsterdam on 21 May 1535 with eight other Anabaptist women. According to van Braght's Martyrs Mirror these martyrs were thrown into the water at night, with heavy stones around their necks. The statement (Doopsgezinde Bijdragen 1909, 20) that Marritgen left Alkmaar on 21 January 1536, and was executed on 23 May 1536, with 25 co-martyrs is incorrect. The official records show that the date of execution given by van Braght is correct. Only the name is written inaccurately; it should be Marritgen Nannincxdochter. She had been (re) baptized just outside the town of Leiden, Holland, in the spring of 1534 by Adriaen Leertouwer (Adriaen Lourisz). The trial records make clear that she had nothing to do with revolutionary Anabaptism; she was very aggressive against the Catholic Church.
