Maurissus van Dale, an Anabaptist martyr, b. 1518 or 1519 at Bellem near Ghent, Belgium, a sheriff of Ghent, joined the Mennonite congregation at Ghent. In the records he is called a "bishop of the Mennonites." Further particulars about him were not available. On 25 June 1573 he was burned at the stake outside the Peterselle gate of Ghent. Adriaen van Haefnstede erroneously listed him in his martyrbook as a Reformed martyr.
