Mennonite Executive Aid Committee of Eastern Pennsylvania, a united committee representing the [[Mennonite Church (MC)|Mennonite]] (MC) conferences of [[LMC: a Fellowship of Anabaptist Churches|Lancaster]] and [[Franconia Mennonite Conference (Mennonite Church USA)|Franconia]] (leader [[Herr, Amos (1816-1897)|Amos Herr]]) and the [[East Pennsylvania Conference of the Mennonite Church|Eastern Pennsylvania Conference]] ([[General Conference Mennonite Church (GCM)|General Conference Mennonite]], leader [[Shelly, Andrew B. (1834-1913)|A. B. Shelly]]) to provide financial and other assistance to needy Mennonite immigrants from [[Russia|Russia]], was formed in April 1874. Attempts by the [[Mennonite Board of Guardians|Mennonite Board of Guardians]], organized in the Midwest for the same purpose in 1873, to merge with this committee failed. A similar committee was organized in Ontario about the same time, led by [[Shantz, Jacob Yost (1822-1909)|Jacob Y. Shantz]].
