Mennonite Executive Aid Committee of Eastern Pennsylvania

Mennonite Executive Aid Committee of Eastern Pennsylvania, a united committee representing the Mennonite (MC) conferences of Lancaster and Franconia (leader Amos Herr) and the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference (General Conference Mennonite, leader A. B. Shelly) to provide financial and other assistance to needy Mennonite immigrants from Russia, was formed in April 1874. Attempts by the Mennonite Board of Guardians, organized in the Midwest for the same purpose in 1873, to merge with this committee failed. A similar committee was organized in Ontario about the same time, led by Jacob Y. Shantz.
