Mennonite Historical Society of Iowa

The Mennonite Historical Society of Iowa was organized 7 September 1948 at Wellman, Iowa, with Thomas Miller as president. Its purpose was to promote the local history of the Mennonites and Amish Mennonites in Iowa, particularly in the local settlements around Kalona, Wellman, and Wayland, including preservation of historical records and materials. It holds occasional public meetings, usually annually. Elmer G. Swartzendruber, local historian, was the prime mover in organizing the society.
