In 1957 Mario Bustos, sponsored by the Second Mennonite Church in Chicago, Illinois, began a Spanish-language outreach in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA. The first service was held on 22 June 1957 in the chapel of a Methodist Church. In about 1967, the congregation obtained a small church on West Mineral Street.

The congregation formally organized on 25 October 1959 with seven charter members as the Iglesia Evangélica Menonita. The Illinois Mennonite Mission Board began to sponsor the work in 1960, which was frequently referred to as the Milwaukee Mennonite Church.

The congregation closed soon after the departure of Elvin V. Snyder, though the address of the church remained listed in the Mennonite Yearbook for several years.
