Neu-Falkenstein (Galicia, Austria)

Neu-Falkenstein in Galicia, is the village, formerly Austrian, now Polish, about 20 miles (35 km) from Lemberg(Lviv), where a number of Mennonite families from the Palatinate, Germany, settled in 1784-1785. They formed a small congregation which held its first communion service on Christmas Day 1785. Neu-Falkenstein was the center of the Mennonites in Galicia until about 1800, when Einsiedel became the center. Neu-Falkenstein is probably identical with Falkenstein.
