Nieuwland is an area north of [[Leeuwarden (Friesland, Netherlands)|Leeuwarden]], Dutch province of [[Friesland (Netherlands)|Friesland]], where [[Leenaert Bouwens (1515-1582)|Leenaert Bouwens]] in 1563-1565 baptized 12 persons and in 1568-1582 another 94. This considerable number indicates the existence of a Mennonite congregation, of which, however, nothing is known.
