Nihon Menonaito Senkyokai (Japan Mennonite Fellowship)
The Nihon Menonaito Senkyokai was organized on 4 May 1971. Its purposes are (a) to strengthen the common bonds of fellowship of all Mennonite and Brethren in Christ churches in Japan and (b) to promote the study of the Anabaptist and Mennonite heritage and define the identity of Mennonites in Japan in the light of the present Asian situation.
Participation by Mennonite groups in Japan is voluntary. But Japan Mennonite Fellowship (JMF) also assumed a liaison role with overseas organizations such as the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) International Visitor Exchange program, and sought to inform churches of Asia Mennonite Conference and Mennonite World Conference activities.
The predecessor of JMF was the Japan MCC Consulting Committee, sponsored by the MCC Peace Section. A change of policy by MCC and the maturing of Japanese churches brought about the birth of JMF.
The main task of Japan Mennonite Fellowship was to take a leadership role in development of a peace witness and theological education in the Japanese context. A peace seminar was becoming an annual event, and an Anabaptist seminar was held every other year.
