Noomen (Noome, Nome, Nomen) is a Dutch Mennonite family, found in the Zaan region and particularly at Zaandam, North Holland, where many members of this family were deacons. Klaas Noome, a farmer and weaver, was a Mennonite preacher at Zaandam as early as 1543. That was the year he was arrested because he read the Bible, but escaped en route to Haarlem. Krelis Jansse Noome was a preacher of the Frisian congregation (Oude Huys) at Zaandam 1651-1669. Pieter Noome is said to have preached a remarkable sermon before Tsar Peter I of Russia, then staying at Zaandam (about 1700). A lateral branch of this family is the van Lijnen Noomen family.
