His son Jacob Tietes (1734-1821), a farmer at Ter Horne near 't Zandt in the province of Groningen, who was a preacher of the Leermens Mennonite congregation after 1763, took the family name of Huizinga. The grandson of Tiete Popkes, also called Tiete Popkes (1772-18?), took the family name of Gaaikema.
