Portage County, Ohio, south of Cleveland, was formed from Trumbull County in 1807. It is so named from an original Indigenous portage seven miles long between the Cuyahoga and Tuscarawas rivers. It is the home of the flourishing Plainview Men­nonite Church located between Kent and Aurora.
