Premont (Texas, USA)

Premont, Texas, a town (population was 2,500 in 1959, 2,772 in 2000) located in the southern part of Jim Wells County in southern Texas. There are 59 Mennonites living within shop­ping distance of Premont, who represent the Mennonite Church (MC) and Mennonite Brethren (MB) groups, each of which has a church. There have been Mennonites in this area for 30 years. The surrounding area is largely agricultural and ranch country, with some oil and gas. The Mennonite Brethren maintain a mission for Latin Americans.
