J. A. Raber was an Old Order Amish book dealer, born 8 September 1885, who had maintained a bookstore at his farm, 2 miles south of Charm, Holmes County, Ohio, from 1915 until at least the late 1950s. He supplied Amish readers with numerous German publications and published the following reprints: Die vollständigen Werke Menno Simons (1926), Nagler's Handwörterbuch der heiligen Schrift (1934), the Märtyrer-Spiegel (1950), and numerous smaller works. An annual publication by Raber since 1930 was Der Neue Amerikanische Kalender, which contained a register of Amish ministers.
