Balthasar Raid (Raide, Raidt, Reide, Rhaide) of [[Fulda (Hesse, Germany)|Fulda]], pastor of [[Hersfeld (Hesse, Germany)|Hersfeld]], Germany, 1525-1565, "the first really Protestant preacher of the city church" (Freudenstein, 35). He was frequently called to debate with the Anabaptists of [[Hesse (Germany)|Hesse]]; by 1544 he claimed to have dealt with three hundred of them, among whom he had many a success.
