Richmond, the capital (population of 197,790 in 2000) of Virginia, is located in the eastern part of the state. The National Heights Mennonite Church (Mennonite Church), organized in 1951, had a membership of 27 in 1957, with Truman H. Brunk as bishop in charge. The university and seminary in the city attract an increasing number of Mennonite students.
