Rinkes family
Rinkes, a Mennonite family, formerly living at Joure, Dutch province of Friesland. From the early 18th century the members of this family were usually ships' chandlers and grocers. In the early 19th century they adopted Rinkes as their family name. Inne Wouters (Rinkes) was a lay preacher in the Oude Huis congregation of Joure 1780-died 1814, and some members of this family were deacons of the church, for example, Jan Innes Rinkes (1849-1935), who was its treasurer and moderator from 1892 to 1931.
Another member of this family was Simke Heeres Rinkes (1829-65), professor of Latin and Greek at Arnhem and state school inspector, who was active in the promotion of better education for Dutch teachers.
