Savary (Savery, Savry) family
Savary (Savery, Savry), a Dutch Mennonite family of artists (painters, copper engravers, sketchers), originally from Kortrijk(Courtrai) in Flanders, Belgium, from where Jacques (Jacob) Savry moved to Amsterdam, where he died in 1602. One of his pictures, "Jephtha's daughter," is found in the Rijksmuseum at Amsterdam. His son Salomon Sav(a)ry (Amsterdam 1594-1665), married to Maria Levynsdr Panten, was a copper plate engraver as was his son Jacob (Amsterdam 1617-66). It could not be ascertained whether Roelant Savery (Kortrijk c. 1578-Utrecht 1639), who obviously was a brother of Jacques and the most prominent of all Savrys, was a Mennonite.
Another Savary family, probably related to the former, was found at Haarlem, Holland; here Marten Savry, married to Margaretha Snep, was from 1687 a trustee of the Flemish-Waterlander orphanage.
