Schilthuis, a Mennonite family found at Groningen, Netherlands, since the early 18th century, where they were grain merchants. According to a family tradition [[Walles, Uco (1583-1653)|Uko Walles]] was one of its ancestors. One of the most outstanding members of this family was Ulferdus Gerardus Schilthuis (1799-1856), a grain dealer at Groningen. He was a member of the Provincial States of Groningen and from 1837 a justice of the peace at Groningen. He was the promoter of new branches of trade and agriculture in the province of Groningen, and through his initiative a school of agriculture (<em>Landhuishoudschool</em>) was founded at Groningen. He married Coenradine Catherina van Delden (1797-1871). At present a branch of this family is also found at Rotterdam; Ulferdus Gerardus Schilthuis, a lawyer at Rotterdam, was a member of the church board of the Rotterdam congregation.
