Peter Schlabach, (1834-1906), an elder of the Amish congregation in Upper Hesse, was married to Anna Güngerich of the Albacherhof, leased the estate of the deceased Unzicker in Frielingen, Hersfeld district, and later a grain business in Wetzlar, became bookkeeper of a savings bank, and was elected the conservative representative to the Prussian Landtag. He took his office with an affirmation instead of an oath: "I, Peter Schlabach, promise that with my yea, which is yea, besides the handshake, that I will be true and faithful to His Royal Majesty the King and will conscientiously follow the constitution." He also attended the conference of the Mennonites of South Germany and was loyal to the brotherhood until his death.
