Shalom Worship and Healing Centre (Kitchener, Ontario, Canada)
Shalom Worship and Healing Centre, Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, a Tigrinya-speaking Eritrean congregation meeting at First Mennonite Church was accepted as an emerging congregation by Mennonite Church Eastern Canada in April 2016. The congregation had begun meeting about 2010, and began meeting at First Mennonite several years later.
The congregation of 100 persons has received pastoral leadership from Jonathan Abraham. He had been aware of Mennonites while still in Eritrea, so the congregation felt called to link with Mennonites in Canada.
In 2023, when It became a full member of Mennonite Church Eastern Canada, it was a congregation of 400 persons. It was working to articulate an intercultural vision even as it remained rooted in growth through immigration from Eritrea and Ethiopia.
