Pieter Staal, a Dutch Mennonite preacher, born at Gouda, who after studying at the Mennonite seminary in Amsterdam served as preacher in the Mennonite congregation of Burtscheid-Vaals and Maastricht 1747-68, living at Burtscheid. In 1768 he moved to Maastricht; this was such a disappointment for the members living in Burtscheid and Vaals, that they resolved to dismiss Staal and to call another preacher to serve only in Vaals and Burtscheid. Staal now served the Maastricht congregation until 1787, in which year he retired because of bad health. The years of birth and death are not known. Apparently he was an uncle of Abraham Staal.
