Ruardus (Rieuwert) Tapper(t), (1485-1559), a [[Roman Catholic Church|Roman Catholic]] priest and professor at the University of Louvain, inquisitor in the [[Netherlands|Netherlands]] and from 1537 papal head inquisitor. He was active against all kind of "heresy" and also had a hand in many lawsuits against Mennonites. Tapper was narrow minded, dogmatic, and cunning, and was greatly hated and feared by the people.
