Thoman, Ruedi (16th century)

Ruedi Thoman (Thomann), an aged farmer living at Zollikon near Zürich, Switzerland, in whose house Felix Manz and Georg Blaurock read the Scriptures, baptized, and administered the Lord's Supper on 25 January 1525. The next day in the early morning Marx Bosshart, Ruedi's son-in-law, and Ruedi himself, were baptized by Blaurock. A few months later the Zollikon congregation was dissolved by the Zürich magistrates. Ruedi Thoman reported to the government officials of Zürich (end of January, or early February 1525) about the meeting held in his house. His information is very important for knowledge of the practices of baptism and communion in the early Anabaptist period. After this trial there is no further information about Ruedi Thoman; like most of the Zollikon Anabaptists he may have recanted.
