Vliermaal, a village near Hasselt in the Belgian province of Limburg (coordinates: 50° 50' 24" N, 5° 25' 46" E), where in 1538 a number of Anabaptists were sentenced to death. Some Ana­baptists from Aachen, Germany, and from England had recently settled in the region of Hasselt. According to somewhat inexact information nine men were burned at the stake and ten women executed by drowning. These victims were apparently Ana­baptists. Their names are not given, with one excep­tion: Jannes van Rommerswael, who was exe­cuted at Curingen near Hasselt, 14 June 1538.
