Michael Weisse, a native of Silesia, Germany. He was a [[Roman Catholic Church|Roman Catholic]] priest who in 1531 became a minister of the [[Moravian Church|Moravian Brethren]] in [[Moravia (Czech Republic)|Moravia]]. He occupies a position of honor in the history of German [[Hymnology (1989)|hymnology]] by his hymnal, <em>Ein New Gesangbuchlen</em>. Wolkan, however, considers all these attributions erroneous, and says that all five of these hymns were written by Weisse.
