Welmoet (Welmoed, Welmut, Weynken) Jans (dochter), an Anabaptist martyr, executed on 7 June 1535, at Hoorn, Dutch province of North Holland, together with four other victims, three men and one woman. They had been arrested in March 1535; apparently the city magistrates of Hoorn hesitated to sentence these five persons, who had a good reputation with their fellow citizens, and it was not until the Court of Holland at The Hague insisted on immediate and rigorous punishment that they were sentenced to death. They all died steadfast. The men were decapitated and the women "were led to the sea, where heavy stones were tied to their necks, and they were cast in, and drowned. Their bodies were ignominiously left to float about for a long time until the rulers were moved to have them taken out and buried."
