Will, Georg Andreas (1727-1798)
Georg Andreas Will, a church historian of Nürenberg, Germany, who published in 1770 a history of the Anabaptist movement in Franconia titled, Beyträge zur Frankischen Kirchen-Historie in einer Geschichte der Wiedertäufer, welche um die Zeit der gesegneten Kirchenreinigung Frankenland und besonders die Stadt Nümberg beunruhigt haben (Nürnberg, 1770). In 1773 a stereotyped edition appeared with the title Beiträge zur Geschichte des Anabaptismus in Deutschland. The book is, as the title of the first edition indicates, written entirely in the spirit of the old Lutheran historiography and sees in the Anabaptist movement only "disorder" and "false doctrine." Will, however, deals for the most part with Thomas Müntzer, whom the Anabaptists had rejected. He makes the interesting concession that there had been cases in Franconia where innocent persons had been taken for Anabaptists and been punished with loss of life (106).
