Wrake, Van de
Van de Wrake, a booklet by Bernhard Rothmann in Münster, entitled Eyn gantz troestlick bericht vande Wrake . . . an alle ware Israeliten unnd Bundtgeneten Christi . . . durch de gemeinte Christi tho Munster (Münster, 1534), was a writing in which the Anabaptists of Holland were summoned to abandon their peaceful attitude and to support the "kingdom of God" at Münster with weapons. Four men distributed the booklet among the Dutch Anabaptists; at Maastricht and elsewhere it was eagerly read. It had a baleful influence, moving many Anabaptists to take up arms and join the Münsterites. Van de Wrake was refuted by Menno Simons in Gantsch duydtlijck, bewys tegens . . . Jan van Leyden. Van de Wrake was re-edited by K. W. Bouterwek in Zur Literatur und Geschichte der Wiedertäufer I (Bonn, n.d.-1864) 66-80.
