Zegers, Herman (ca. 1576-1667)

Zegers (Seghersz, Segersz), Herman (c1576-July 1667), living at Utrecht, Netherlands, owner of a tileworks, was a deacon and in 1639-63 a preacher of the Utrecht Mennonite congregation. In 1632 he signed the Dordrecht confession of faith in the name of the Utrecht congregation. In 1660 ff., when a conflict arose in the Utrecht church, Zegers held to conservative views, opposing Willem van Maurikand some co-preachers who sided with van Maurik. He was a descendant of the martyr Jeronimus Seghersz, and the ancestor of the Hovens family.
