Balen, Matthijs Jansz (1611-1691)

Matthijs Jansz Balen (Matthys Balen), born 1 October 1611, was a member of the Dordrecht Mennonite congregation. He wrote Beschrijvinge der Stadt Dordrecht (Descriptions of the City of Dordrecht), printed in 1677, which is considered a model of contemporary local historiography. He died in Dordrecht on 30 March 1691.
