Braun, Abraham A. (19th century)
Abraham A. Braun, son of Abraham Braun, Grossweide, a respected member of the Gnadenfeld Mennonite congregation, South Russia, was one of a group of Wüst brethren which included August Lehman, the elder of this congregation in Gnadenfeld, Andreas Flaming of Schardau, and Heinrich Schmidt of Pastwa, preachers of the congregation; in his later years Braun was a Felsentaler Freund. Braun's father had the courage to admit Abr. Cornelsen into his home, who had been expelled in midwinter from the Elisabeththal school and who was living in the Nogai steppes in a freshly built, damp sod hut. Abraham Braun completed his courses for elementary teaching under Heinrich Franz I (1812-1889) and the Lange brothers in the Gnadenfeld Vereinsschule. He taught in the village school in Neu-Halbstadt, then for 30 years in the Gnadenfeld school. He was also engaged as a teacher of Russian in the Gnadenfeld Zentralschule.
