Ebersole (Ebersol, Eversole, Eversull, Aebersold, Ebersohl) is a Swiss family name found frequently in the Mennonite Church (MC) of North America, especially in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and in Illinois. Among the Ebersohl immigrants of the 18th century were Abraham (1727); Johannes, Peter, and Jost (1739); Carl (1753); and Jacob (1763). The Lancaster Mennonite Conference has had several deacons by the name of Ebersole, seven or more ministers, and bishops Peter Ebersole (1791-1870) and John G. Ebersole (1849-1934). The Lancaster Conference in 1955 had a minister and a deacon named Ebersole, and Ohio and Eastern Mennonite Conference had Bishop Allen Ebersole. Among the first ministers in the Partridge, Illinois, congregation (now Metamora) was Andrew Ebersole. Frank S. Ebersole (General Conference Mennonite) (1875- ), former business manager of Goshen College (to 1912), served as mayor of Goshen, Indiana, 1943-1948.
