Fortuna (Missouri, USA)
Fortuna, Missouri, is a village (population of 200 in 1950) in Moniteau County in central Missouri. Approximately 60 Mennonite families lived in the early 1950s in a settlement a few miles southeast of Fortuna. In this Mennonite community were two churches, Bethel (Fellowship of Evangelical Churches, formerly General Conference Mennonite Church), and Mount Zion. The first Mennonite settlers came to Moniteau County in 1866. This settlement remained almost entirely rural with only an occasional family retiring to live in a nearby town or village. The address of the Bethel Mennonite Church is Fortuna, but the address of the Mt. Zion Mennonite Church and of most of the 60 families is Versailles, and most of these are located in Morgan County.
