August Rudolf Gebser (1801-1874) was in 1828 professor at the University of Jena, Germany, in 1829 superintendent and cathedral preacher, and 1830-1856 professor of theology at the University of Königsberg. Later he lived in Weimar, Kosen, Eisleben, and Halle, where he died. His manifold works, mostly theological, are predominantly occasional writings. In his Commentatio de primordiis studiorum fanaticorum Anabaptistarum saeculo XVI, which appeared anonymously at Königsberg in 1830, he tried to prove that the Anabaptist movement emanated from Nikolaus Storch. A copy of this rare book is found in the [[Amsterdam Mennonite Library (Bibliotheek en Archief van de Vereenigde Doopsgezinde Gemeente te Amsterdam)|Amsterdam Mennonite Library]] and in the university library of Göttingen.
