Hooley<strong> </strong>(Hoelly, Holly) is a [[Switzerland|Swiss]] family name occurring among the [[Mennonite (The Name)|Mennonites]] of [[United States of America|America]]. Among the immigrants bearing this name were two brothers, Michael and Andreas Hooley, the latter having with him a son John, who arrived in [[Pennsylvania (USA)|Pennsylvania]] ([[Philadelphia (Pennsylvania, USA)|Philadelphia]]) 3 November 1750. Andreas was an [[Amish Mennonites|Amish Mennonite]], and located in what is now [[Lebanon County (Pennsylvania, USA)|Lebanon County]], Pennsylvania. His son John (1739-1805) married Catherine Blank, and lived for a time in [[Berks County (Pennsylvania, USA)|Berks County]], Pennsylvania, later in [[Mifflin County (Pennsylvania, USA)|Mifflin County]], Pennsylvania. He was an Amish Mennonite preacher. Some of his descendants later (1844) settled at [[West Liberty (Ohio, USA)|West Liberty]], [[Ohio (State)|Ohio]].
