Leens (Groningen, Netherlands)

Leens, a town in the Dutch province of Groningen, in the Marne region, where since the 16th century there were numerous Mennonites who belonged to the very conservative Groningen Old Flemish branch. The congregation of Leens, of which Jacob Melles (1649-February 1683) and Ary Aris were preachers in the 17th century, may have merged with a neighboring church, probably that of Rasquert, at the close of the 17th century or in the early 18th century.
