Lysbeth (Lysbette, Elisabeth Piersins (Pierssins); van Braght, only Elisabeth), was an Anabaptist martyr burned at the stake on 21 July 1551, on the Veerle square at Ghent, Belgium, with Gilles de Gusemme. Standing on the place of execution, the executioner treated her indecently, the only case of indecency which is related in the literature concerning the martyrs. Gillis and Lysbeth are celebrated in a song "Als men schreef vijftienhondert jaer en een en vijftich daer toe voorwaer," No. 8 in the Lietboecxken van den Offer des Heeren. Both had been (re)-baptized by Gillis van Aken. Lysbeth Piersins may have belonged to the Pierson family later found in the Netherlands and the Pearson family of England.
