McIvor Avenue Mennonite Brethren Church began services and formally organized in 1976 with 248 charter members. The first building was occupied in 1976. Allan Labun, formerly associate pastor at North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church, was the first leading minister of the congregation. The congregation originated through church planting by North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren due to the latter's size.
