The Morningside Community Church in Montezuma, [[Kansas (USA)|Kansas]]--an outgrowth of a [[Montezuma Church of God in Christ, Mennonite Church (Montezuma, Kansas, USA)|Church of God in Christ (Holdeman) Mennonite congregation]] in the southwestern Kansas town--was established on 8 April 1979, and affiliated with the [[Rocky Mountain Mennonite Conference (Mennonite Church)|Rocky Mountain Mennonite Conference]] of the [[Mennonite Church (MC)|Mennonite Church]] as an associate member. On 22 April the Morningside congregation's church building was dedicated, and Ervey Unruh, who had served previously as minister at the [[Gospel Fellowship Church (Scott City, Kansas, USA)|Gospel Fellowship Mennonite Church]] in Shallow Water, Kansas, became the congregation's first pastor that same month. Three years later in 1982, the small congregation withdrew from Rocky Mountain Mennonite Conference affiliation. In 1984 a new group known as Faith Mennonite Church, and formed from remnants of the Morningside congregation, affiliated with the [[South Central Mennonite Conference (Mennonite Church USA)|South Central Conference]] of the Mennonite Church and the [[Western District Conference (Mennonite Church USA)|Western District Conference]] of the [[General Conference Mennonite Church (GCM)|General Conference Mennonite Church]].
