View source for Strickler, Joseph (1797-1879)

Joseph Strickler was born in York County, PA, the son of Bishop Jacob Strickler (1768-1842) and Catherine Cormeny Strickler (1765-1841). In 1819 he married Mary Leib, to whom eight children were born. He was a miller and farmer near Goldsboro, PA. He was a member of the River Brethren (later known as [[Brethren in Christ Church |Brethren in Christ]]). He later became a leader among the Old Order River Brethren. It appears that Joseph moved to Manor Township in [[Lancaster County (Pennsylvania, USA)|Lancaster County]] in the 1860s. He was called upon to give bishop oversight to the recently organized congregation of [[Old Order River Brethren|Old Order River Brethren]] in that county.
