Henry Dietrich Wiebe (1889-1949), educator, evan­gelist, pastor, and a leading worker of the Mennonite Brethren (MB) Church, the son of Dietrich Wiebe and Elizabeth (Heidebrecht) Wiebe, was born at Hillsboro, Kansas, 12 December 1889. He was educated at the Hillsboro Academy, Tabor College, Teacher's College at Weatherford, Oklahoma, and the University of Oklahoma, earning the degrees B.A., M.A., and Th.B., and later having the honorary degree of D.D. con­ferred upon him. During his student days Wiebe was converted and joined the MB Church. He married Gertrude Klaassen at Turnhill, Saskatchewan, 7 August 1919. They had three sons and one daughter.

Wiebe taught at the Hope Valley School near Hills­boro, Kansas, 1914-18, served as principal and instruc­tor at the Mennonite Brethren Bible Academy, Corn, Oklahoma, 1919-36, and as instructor of Bible and German at Tabor College, 1937-39. The Mennonite Brethren Church ordained Wiebe to the ministry in 1917. Until 1936 he was a trav­eling evangelist much of the time and conducted many evangelistic meetings in all the district conferences of the MB Church.

The ministry of Wiebe included services as as­sistant pastor of the MB Church, Corn, Oklahoma, minister of several community churches in southern Oklahoma, and pastorates at the Mennonite Brethren churches at Shafter, Rosedale, and Lodi, California.  In the Southern District Conference he served as moderator and as secretary of its Home Mission Committee. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Tabor Col­lege 1933-36. In the Pacific District Conference he was moderator 1940-42 and secretary of its Home Mission Board 1942-49, and for some time chairman of the Educational Board for Pacific Bible Institute. In the General Conference of the MB Church he filled the post of moderator in 1945-48. Wiebe died at his home in Reedley, California on 10 July 1949.
